The cigar consists of three parts:
1. The filler
2. The binder
3. The wrapper
All these components influence on quality of cigar.
The filler
The filler leaf is an internal part of cigar. Sometimes it is
named “heart of cigar”. Filler leaf can be “long”
and “short”.
“The long leaf”, is whole tobacco leaves which lay
on all length of the cigar that can be only with handmade manufacturing
of cigars. In good cigars can be from three up to five different
grades of filler leaves.
“The short leaf”, it as a matter of fact, cut and
pressed tobacco which is used at machine rolling.
Certainly, that the long leaf is more expensive, cigars that
have it due to good inhale burn better and at lower temperature,
rather than cigars with filling. All this leads to that the
cigar rolled manually, with long filler leaf up to the end has
softer taste while rolled by machine while smoking becomes on
taste rougher and sharper.
Binder
Binder leaf keeps together filler leaves. It should be strong
enough and have taste which would be in harmony with taste both
filler and wrapper leaf. Cigars that are rolled manually have
always only natural tobacco leaf. Whereas in cigars of machine
rolling is often used homogenized leaf, as a matter of fact
it is simply a paper from tobacco dust and cellulose mix.
Wrapper
Wrapper leaf – is most important element of the cigar.
It gives not only 30-60 % of cigar taste, but its appearance
makes first impression about cigar. In opinion of the smoker
the wrapper leaf is already cigar. Quality of the wrapper leaf,
its color, invoice, and aroma give to smoker clear enough impression
about cigar before it will be light. And if the leaf does not
look attractively the smoker will choose other cigars. It is
one of the reasons why good wrapper leaves are so expensive.
